  • Anne

Anne has been a key figure at Bristol Women's Workshop since its beginning, bringing decades of teaching experience. After attending a girls' school with no woodworking opportunities, Anne discovered her passion in an all-male evening class. This sparked her mission to empower women by teaching practical skills, which she has refined through continuous education and carpentry qualifications.

A long-time meditator, Anne integrates a meditative aspect into woodworking, helping her students find calm and focus. She believes that working with tools leads to a more satisfying life and a deeper connection to the environment. Anne is passionate about breaking barriers for women in woodworking, helping them realize their potential.

  • Alba

Alba joined the workshop's foundation course as a student in 2019 to gain practical skills and a greater sense of independence. Rediscovering her passion for woodworking, she found beauty in turning raw timber into tangible objects and has completed a Diploma in Joinery and Furniture Making at City of Bristol College, deepening her skills and knowledge.

She has since applied her skills by building kitchens, working on landscaping projects, and running woodworking workshops at a mental health hospital, experiences that reinforced her belief in the therapeutic power of woodworking. As a teacher at Bristol Women’s Workshop, Alba is passionate about helping others find empowerment and joy through woodworking. Outside the workshop, she enjoys music and scaling the cliffs down to the beach.

  • Lisa

Twelve years ago, Lisa joined the women's woodworking class to reconnect with her love for the craft. She gradually began assisting and, four years ago, started teaching her own classes. With a degree in Design Technology, Lisa's background is in teaching D&T in secondary schools as well as outdoor activity instruction, which took her away from woodworking for a while.

Rediscovering woodworking reignited Lisa's passion, and teaching these classes has been rewarding as she inspires and empowers women to explore woodworking.

When she's not in the workshop, Lisa enjoys spending time in the great outdoors, always on the lookout for her next adventure.

  • Rachel

Rachel’s passion for woodworking began in childhood, when her dad introduced her to hand tools in their attic workshop. From those early memories of working together on small projects, Rachel’s skills grew, leading her to furniture restoration, home improvements, and van conversions. Encouraged by her dad to explore woodworking alongside her brothers, she is now dedicated to sharing these skills with other women.

As an instructor, Rachel is committed to creating a welcoming and supportive learning environment where students can explore their creativity at their own pace. Whether you’re new to woodworking or looking to enhance your abilities, she patiently guides each person through mastering the fundamentals, ensuring they feel confident and inspired by the process of creating with their hands.
