Bristol Women’s Workshop needs your help.
The building is under threat and repairs are urgently required. This includes the roof, outbuildings, staircases and other safeguards to ensure the future of the charity. If we are unable to fund this desperately needed building work, these unique and transformational programmes to educate and empower women in skills such as woodwork, DIY and upholstery are at risk.
The only workshop of its kind in the South West, Bristol Women’s Workshop was founded in 1981 with the aim of training and educating women in practical skills in areas in which they are under-represented. The workshop is now more popular than ever, proving its continuing relevance. Even in 2016 women still face barriers to learning traditionally male skills - it is vital that we protect Bristol Women’s Workshop and its work to address this imbalance.
Bristol Women’s Workshop is uniquely placed to offer these courses.
In its 35 year history many thousands of women have passed through the workshop, gaining skills in woodwork, DIY and upholstery in a welcoming, friendly and supportive environment. Bristol Women’s Workshop has given countless women the confidence to explore and develop these skills, be it as a rewarding hobby or a brand new career.
Carrying out these repairs will allow us to make sure Bristol Women’s Workshop remains as a comfortable, inviting space for women to learn. Over 35 years Bristol Women’s Workshop has demonstrated its relevance and longevity. These repairs will allow us to safeguard this unique resource for years to come. In the future we intend to expand the workshop and look at exciting new possibilities - covering more skills and reaching even more women.
If we don’t act now the workshop faces closure, resulting in the loss of a unique and valuable community resource. There is no other organisation offering these unique courses to women. Closure means future generations will be deprived of the education and opportunities provided by Bristol Women’s Workshop.
